Anonymous asked: Why are you against HONY?

    brashblacknonbeliever:

HONY posted a picture of a Jewish man and a Sudanese woman. The story below it told of how, after the photographer got their picture, the man offered the woman $500 to sleep with him. When she said no he offered her $1,000 like that would change her mind. The woman went on to say that things like that happen to her a lot and she wanted the story to be shared.

Soon after posting it HONY received a lot of backlash. It wasn’t because people were expressing anger at the man who harassed a woman and offered her money to sleep with him even after she said no multiple times. No. It was because they felt sorry for him. They felt that this story portrayed Jewish people in a bad light. You see, for them, the reputation of this Jewish man was more important than the harassment he dealt out to a Sudanese woman. How she felt and how she was dealing with the situation was of no importance to them. No one took the time to seek her out and ask her how she was coping with the situation but a lot of people tracked down the harasser and inquired as to how he and his family were doing.

In response to this backlash, HONY issued an apology to the Jewish community, the harasser, and his family. They then got tumblr to delete the post from their blog and the blogs of every single person that reblogged the post. They then moved on like it had never happened.
