Plate 46 of The Birds of America, by John Audubon, the Barred Owl. I’ve always found this one to be a bit humorous. The squirrel just doesn’t seem to be bothered about the owl coming at him a few inches away, as if he’s posing for Audubon and saying, “Don’t worry about me. If he can’t sneak up on me he’ll never catch me.”
